We'll have plenty of cheese but life is about balance, right. And what better way to have balance in one's life than by having chocolate tasted! I,ve tasted a lot of chocolate(it's an occupational hazard!)

After a wonderfully hectic trip to Iowa[where they’re doing some pretty nice wines] we have the 90 Points wine tasting in the gardens of the Pitcher Inn tonight. We are sold out and the evening promises to be a good one. Tamales,desserts, good company in a beautiful setting and of course great wine on a picture perfect day. As they said in The Field of Dreams,” Am I in heaven? No, you’re in Iowa.” Vermont could certainly be the answer as well. See you all tonight!

the wines that I purchased way back when there was snow and ice and dark for a summer that I thought would never see are starting to arrive. Lots of whites but lots of really nice reds too. I’m definitely a seasonal drinker-more whites than reds in the summer-but I enjoyed a Cline ancient vines mouverdre last night with Colleen’s amazing b-b-q chicken pizza and it was a great meal in 10 minutes! Our Cline mouvedre and rose are on deep deal! Come in and check them out!

Vermont Country Store meeting

Yesterday the village was buzzing with country store owners and employees to talk about growth, survival, and the numerous challenges and rewards of running a country store. Governor Shumlin was on hand to meet and greet and spoke with us for an hour about different issues facing us as business people in VT. I want to thank all of you who attended this important event –lots of good ideas and energy.

that beginning today I’ll be traveling around to different food shows to get new and some previously carried products for the deli and grocery shelves. Sampling season is upon us. I’m happy that I have a good running schedule going to offset all the incoming tastes. A shout out to Chris from SC. Yes it’s great to have Stefan back and the chairman of the cutting board listening to the chairman of the board back in the deli!

Stefan is back in the deli! He certainly didn’t come back with any of that great Florida weather but we’re still happy that he’s holding it down in that sea of sisterhood back in the deli. To no one’s surprise, at least if you are a Vermonter, we are getting reminded that winter is not quite ready to loosen her grip. While many of us see April as a time to get out the golf clubs, the bikes, and the lawn mower, I remind you that April offers some of the best skiing of the season. Not cold, the sun is higher, and what a base we have this year. I strongly suggest coming up in the weeks ahead-the lawn mover can wait.

By all accounts this spring has been a banner season for the maple syrup makers. Our supplier Dwayne Braman says the conditions have been ideal for good quality and quantity. He just delivered to us as new batch. Come in and try the new vintage!
